Micromax has launched its latest budget smartphone, the Yu Yuphoria,
at an event held in Delhi. The device is quite a head turner with
a metal frame body, 2GB RAM and 5MP front camera at the most sought
after price tag of Rs 6,999. This also means it will be competing with
others at this popular price point from Xiaomi, Motorola and Lenovo.
We’ve put the Yu Yuphoria, Xiaomi Redmi 2, Motorola Moto E and Lenovo
A6000 in the ring to find out which one emerges as the winner, at least
on paper.
Take a look at the comparison chart below:
Comparison chart
Bottom line:
Micromax’s
Yu Yuphoria has further intensified the battle of budget phones in
India with a metal frame and whopping 2GB RAM. It’s the only device in
that price range that doesn’t look plasticky. If you are looking for a
large screen experience then the Yu Yuphoria and Lenovo A6000 are
evidently a better pick, closely followed by Redmi 2. But in terms
of display quality, the Redmi 2 has a higher pixel density and could
offer a slightly sharper display.
In
terms of processing power, except Moto E, the other three are powered
by Snapdragon 410. But Yuphoria has an edge over the others with 2GB
RAM. So, it is better placed to handle multi-tasking and one can expect a
smoother and non-laggy experience.
In
terms of camera, Moto E disappoints with its 5MP rear shooter over the
8MP found in Yuphoria, A6000 and Redmi 2. For selfie lovers, the
Yuphoria is a clear winner with a 5MP front shooter, compared to
mediocre cameras found in the rest. In terms of connectivity, they seem
almost at par, save the 4G support missing in Moto E.
The Moto
E leads with a 2,390 mAh battery, followed by Lenovo, Micromax and
Xiaomi. However, Yuphoria also includes the quick charge functionality
that is not found in this price range.
With
all four carrying a similar price tag, the mobile OS becomes one of the
crucial differentiating factor. If you are looking for pure Android
experience then look no further than Moto E 2015, other three come with
skinned OS. Both Yuphoria and Moto E run the latest Android Lollipop
mobile OS. Needless to say, Yuphoria gets a layer of the latest Cyanogen
OS 12. Another differentiaing factor is the 16GB onboard storage found
in the Yuphoria, while the others come equipped with 8GB. All four have
expandable slots up to 32GB.
All
in all, the Yu Yuphoria looks like a great deal, at least on paper.
However, we will be able to talk about its performance only once we
taken it to our labs for a thorough review.
